4th of July Inspired Eyes: Red, White, and Blue Eye Makeup

July fourth screams summer.  Everyone celebrates the USA’s Independence Day with summer fun, outdoor activities, grilling, and fireworks.  Why not make sure your makeup is having as much fun as you are?  If you’re planning on attending your city’s July 4th Fireworks, make a splash by creating a unique, American Flag inspired eye.  Here are some of our favorite eye looks and tricks for creating a patriotic eye look that is chic and fun, not scary.

Line it up: For the easiest, most subtle look, create a natural eye with neutral colors and add a subtle Fourth of July pop with red or blue eyeliner.  Line your lids with an Angled Eyeliner Brush applying blue on top and a touch of red on the bottom.  The secret?  Apply a very thin line at the inner corners of your eyes and let it get slightly thicker on the outside of the top lid.  When doing the bottom, apply color starting half way in and pull out to a slightly thicker outside that lines up with the color on top.   Apply a couple of coats of mascara to finish the look.   For something even more subtle, use a blue pencil eyeliner on your top lids only.  We like Tarte’s Aqua Gel Eye Liner in navy

Get your sparkle on: Find your inner fireworks with glittery, sparkling lids.  Apply a sparkling shade of blue eye shadow on your lids only.   Wet your Eye Shading Brush and dip it in a sparkling color like Buxom Stay There Eye Shadow in husky.  Another option?  Use your Smudge Eye Liner Brush to achieve the same look but on the lash line only.  Just make sure to pair it with a neutral eye and apply lots of mascara to balance it out.

Let your flag fly: If you really want a stand out, American flag inspired eye, use red, white, and blue eye shadow.  Opt for cream colors, as they’re easy to blend and fix mistakes when you’re using bold colors.  Try Sephora’s Makeup Forever Professional pots.  Use your fingers, Petite Smudge Brush or Petite Eye Shading Brush from the 6 Piece Eye Brush Set, their small size gives you great control for small spaces.  Start with white, and apply a small amount over your lids up to the crease, making sure to get a nice concentration of color in the corners of your eye.  Next, grab your red and apply a sweep or two above the crease of your eye.  Don’t worry that the two colors aren’t blended; you’ll do that next.  Lastly, apply blue in the crease and blend it down onto your lids.  You’ll get a nice graduated color from lids to crease.  You’ll want to leave a little white showing in the corner.  Finish your eyes with a small strip of black eyeliner and a few coats of mascara.

Don’t forget to finish off any of these eye looks with finished eyebrows.  Comb through with your Lash and Brow Groomer and add a little bit of eyebrow gel, we like ELF Studio Eye Brow Kit.  Keep your cheeks neutral with a peach or light pink color and don’t forget the red lips!

You’re sure to get lots of compliments!  But, no matter how you do your eye makeup, make sure to remember the spirit of the day!
